Championing Student Design Excellence | 2024 Villioti Future Fashion Leaders Show
Here at FRM our mission remains simple-yet-consistent: To create an independent arts & culture platform to ensure that the talented African youth within our fashion industry are provided with an opportunity to explain their creative narratives–with an ultimate goal of engaging directly with both local and international audiences. Our ensuing story continues within this exact same vein–taking a peek into the annual fashion show at the remarkable Villioti Fashion Institute.
Powered by the invaluable support of partners like KWV Wild Africa Cream, Huawei and Kohl Makeup Academy, this well-known annual student fashion showstopper took place at the one-and-only Vodacom Dome centred in Midrand, Johannesburg. The Villioti team states:
"This event celebrated the artistry and innovation of South Africa’s next wave of designers while championing a noble cause. Guided by esteemed designer Spero Villioti, the show unveiled collections that captivated attendees with their originality, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking design. From avant-garde creations to sophisticated ready-to-wear looks, the runway was a showcase of the immense talent cultivated at the institute. Adding to the night’s glamour were appearances by renowned local personalities, cementing the event’s reputation as a premier fashion spectacle."
From the eccentric colourful 1st year designs, to the 2nd year's Coco Chanel-esque tweed ensembles, right through to the 3rd year's final year collections—Villioti Fashion Institute students ensured they hung their flag up high exhibiting first-class work for student levels. This year’s show however wasn’t just about stunning designs—it also served as a powerful fundraiser for their Fashion Education Foundation. Proceeds from this event went towards providing bursaries & financial aid to promising, underprivileged fashion students—ensuring the next generation of creative visionaries have the resources to thrive.
Considering that South Africa still has the highest youth unemployment rate in the world, we at FRM continue to find it imperative to support such fashion school initiatives as they aid in cultivating our next generation of creatives.
